Yeah, you’re lucky and it will be easier for you to learn surfing. But most important is to be comfortable in the water, so once you like to swim and feel good in the ocean that’s the most important to learn how to surf.
Our lessons are hold in hip deep water with a trainer pushing you in the wave. This WAY IS VERY SAFE AND EASY TO HAVE FUN RIDING THE WHITEWATER.
The challenge is to learn how to read and work with the ocean, and this is the experience that will be new and most important to all of you who want to learn how to surf.
Spending time on the water with the right gear and guidance will speed it up for sure, but again time on the water is the key.
If you are already on Hispaniola island, Cabarete, is located on the north shore of the Dominican Republic, Cabarete is about 25 km east of Puerto Plata Airport. Playa Encuentro is located between Sosua and Cabarete and you have to turn at Coconut Palms.
Here is the map.
If you are still at home, to get to Cabarete, best is to fly into Puerto Plata. From there take taxi ride around 35 U$ and 20 min .
Also Santiago Airport is an alternative , but it will be min. 100 U$
and 1,5 hour Taxi ride (Airport-Jamaho – Sabaneta – Cabarete- beautiful ride and scenery in the daytime through the mountains before you reach Cabarete.
Santo Domingo 4,5 hours, min. 150/200 U$ Taxi ride – you basically have to pass the island from south to north. the airport is located east of Santo Domingo and you have to go through the city (3 million people)in rush hour !!). The first 200km is all highway. The last 80 km is also through the mountains (Santo Domingo- la Vega- Moca -Jamaho – Sabaneta – Cabarete)
Punta Cana: 5 till 6 hours Taxi ride Min 250 /300 U$.
You basically arrive in the south east part of the island and have to travel 4 hours till Santo Domingo and then the same direction as above.
We don’t usually ask this here on the island, where it’s always sunny and rarely in winter time we’ve got heavy, but quick rains. However, we’ve got high season from Dec. till March, and from June till August.
Where could I stay at Dominican Republic?
You could find any type of accommodation depending on your needs starting from a cheap hostel to a luxury all inclusive hotel. Cabarete/Sosua offer it all. If you tell us what you are looking for, how many people you’re going to come with and we’ll find the most appropriate alternative for you.
You could find a big choice of different cafes and restaurants in Cabarete with western and eastern cuisine. Choose where to have your first dinner at Dominican Republic you could at our partners site.
However, don’t forget that you are staying in the tropical country and you should wash your hands before meal and shouldn’t drink tapped water.
What else could I do in Dominican Republic except surfing?
For sure, we advise you to travel all over the island in order to enjoy wild nature, bath in fresh, untouched lakes, jump into waterfalls of mountain river, have a look at the unique life of locals.
We’re collaborating with the most adventures travel agency in Dominican Republic called Iguana Mama in order to make your trip ideal, because ‘Mama Knows Best’..
